Overview for Types of Cats
Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Mike Kim and am your host and guide to Types-of-Cats.com. Please find educational resources for cat owners. Did you know that cats come in all different sizes, shapes, personalities, and temperament? Before adopting or buying a cat, it is best to educate yourself and be informed about the different cat breeds, cat symptoms, cat food brands, cat health questions, cat climbing furniture, and more.
Kippy & Gus
Do you like short hair or long hair cats? My favorite is the Persian just because we had two siblings named Gus and Kippy. See their pictures below. Because they had long hair coats, they had to be groomed on a regular basis. If not their long hair became matted meaning the coat became tangled. We bought them from an expensive pedigree show cat breeder who was associated with the Cat Fanciers' Association CFA. They had great temperament and Kippy the white Persian cat was extremely beautiful.
Certain types of pure breed cats can be show cats. Show cats are special cats that show the breeds characteristics very well. For example, Kippy our white Persian cat has a very compact flat face with eyes wide a part with the nose right between them. She has perfect coat that is very lush. Show cats are more expensive than their pet quality counterparts. Specific breeds do exist and these are often sold by breeders. There are many popular breeds such as Persians, exotic short hair, scottishfolds, abyssians, Bengali, Siamese, etc. Pure breeds tend to have better temperament.

Pet quality pure breeds are basically the average joe of their breed. This means that they don't have an amazing coat or distinct facial features. A pet quality Persian like Gus our cat lacks being a show cat but makes a good pet.

Domestic Cat Breeds
A cat's coat can be a solid color, calico, tabby, bi-color, tortoiseshell, or point colored. Solid color cats only have one color. These cats can be white, orange, black, blue, etc. Calico cats have orange, black, and white spots on their coat.
Tabby cat such as Louise from the Gifford cat shelter (see her picture below) tend to have lines, spots, or swirls on their coat. Bi-color cats have a two colors, usually white and black, brown, or red. Tortoiseshell cats have patches of orange, black, white, and brown. Their coats look very mottled because of this. Point color cats have a pale body with darker coloring on the limbs, eats, tail, and muzzle. Siamese cats tend to have this coat.
Cast Your Vote
Here is your change to vote for your favorite types of cats. When I collect enough data, I will post it on my home page.
Be sensitive towards your pet. Listen to his/her breathing, eyes, nose, behavior, and eating habit. Healthy cats are alert and sensitive to the surroundings. Cats are more active during night time than day time. Most of them sleep during the day.
Cat Shelters
I volunteer to work at the GIffod Cat Shelter which is the oldest one in the nation that is cage free and no kill. There are about 40 cats including feral cats who have their own colony outside. There are many volunteers who come and devote their time by cleaning, socializing, and helping with the shelter. The two white cats with mixed tails are from the Gifford cat shelter.
Black Cat Picture
I think black cats are sensitive and smarter than other cats. Here is Nigel picture from the Gifford cat shelter. I became very close with him because he was playful and sociable. See more about him by clicking on his picture below.
There are many different types of cat foods on the market. They range from specific age groups and health for kitten, cats, elderly cats, and cats with health problems related to age or other reasons. Cats can also be fed home made foods. Some people prefer to make their own because some cat foods have been recalled and some have unhealthy ingredients.
